Look Two, Disconnected Perceptions of Land, was designed in the thought of how land transforms from a pre-existing state into another condition for human purposes. I was specifically inspired by overview images of contrasts between land with low human involvement compared to high development. These images exemplified the complete repurposing of land and the disconnects between how we perceive a piece of farmland, a cityscape, and a national park. We have separate relationships to these distinct forms of land and I think we value them differently. How do we coexist with them and relate to them? Do we capture nature in a more desirable form when it is "untouched" in a national park than when it is manipulated to produce our food or to live?
Dress made of sewn rayon organza from FABSCRAP and my digitally printed farmscape print on synthetic mesh. Natural material collected from Providence, RI is sewn inside the organza and green lambskin from FABSCRAP is held in the lower half of the organza and digital print. The segments were sewn together with polyester thread by hand.
